Marketing kit

Turn a client's approved cover into a full campaign: check the cover, paste the launch notes, set the brand kit, review and generate the kit, build assets by hand, export it by channel, and send it for client review.

What the marketing kit is

The marketing kit turns one book's approved cover into the images and the copy for its launch. One run builds every asset for the book:

  • Feed ads and stories for Meta, Instagram, Reels and TikTok.
  • Launch moments: cover reveal, preorder, launch day and quote graphics.
  • Email and web: a newsletter header, a website hero and a link preview.
  • Amazon A+ modules and mockups of the book.
  • Four copy documents: the Listing kit, the Ads kit, Social copy and the Launch calendar.

Every asset uses the book's launch notes and the brand kit. You can make more like any single asset, build one by hand, export the whole kit as a zip, and send it to your client for approval.

The marketing kit is part of the Enterprise plans (Starter, Growth and Scale). Each marketing kit is one book's full kit for the month, and your plan includes a number of marketing kits a month. You can create as many books as you like: only the marketing kits are counted.

The marketing kit is not the Book Launch Kit. The Book Launch Kit is the author launch pack at /launch-kit, which Enterprise plans also include and which runs on credits. The marketing kit is the agency tool on the book's kit page: channel-sized assets on the client's brand kit, with client review.

Open a book's kit

Use one of these two paths:

  • Open /account-dashboard and select Marketing kit under the book on your shelf.
  • Open the book in the External Cover Studio and select Open the marketing kit.

The kit page has a side menu. On a phone, the menu is a row of tabs at the top.

  • Setup is a checklist of four steps: Book & cover, Launch notes, Brand kit and Review & generate. A step with a tick is done.
  • Kit holds the finished kit: Images, Copy docs, Formats and Client review. Download .zip, beside the Kit heading, downloads the whole kit.
  • More like this, at the foot of the menu, shows how many of the book's 40 regenerations are left.

A book with no kit yet opens on step 1. A book with a kit opens on Images.

Step 1: Book & cover

The kit is built from the book's newest favourite cover, or from its newest cover when it has no favourite. Step 1 shows that cover with a Kit cover marker. To build the kit from another cover, mark that cover as your favourite in your library, then reload the kit page.

A book with no cover cannot have a kit yet. Generate or upload a cover first.

The Book card also holds the book's Series. Pick a series under the book's client, or select Start a series. Books in a series can share one brand kit (step 3).

Step 2: Launch notes

Launch notes holds what the assets say: the tagline, the launch and preorder dates, the price, the retailers, the buy link, quotes, comparable titles, hashtags and the audience.

  1. Paste your launch notes into Paste notes. A newsletter draft, a listing or an email to your designer all work.

  2. Optionally add up to 5 links under Links (optional). Only each page's own title, description and cover image are read.

  3. Select Read my notes. On a book that already has notes, the button says Extract fields again. Reading is free.

  4. Check the fields on the right. Each field has a tag:

    • From notes: read from your notes.
    • Edited: you corrected it. A later read never changes it.
    • Check: a guess we are not sure about.
    • Missing: empty, and an asset needs it.
    • Empty: empty, and no asset needs it.

Under each field, Used on lists the assets that show it. Click a value to correct it, then select Save.

If the launch date or the buy link is unclear, the step asks for them directly. The Print edition fields (trim size, pages, paper, binding, ISBN) fill in the print wrap editor.

Step 3: Brand kit

The brand kit holds the palette, the display and body fonts, up to five mood words, imagery rules and a logo. Every asset follows it.

  1. Under Applies to, pick which books use this kit: This book, This series or All of the client's books.
  2. Select Pull colors from cover to fill the palette and the fonts from the cover. It is free. Tick Also detect the cover's fonts to read the actual lettering (1 credit, once per cover).
  3. Check the colours and fonts, and add mood words, imagery rules and a logo (PNG, JPG or WebP, 2 MB or smaller).
  4. Select Save to the client, Save to the series or Save to this book only. The button follows your choice under Applies to.

A book uses its own brand kit first, then its series kit, then its client kit. With none of them, the assets fall back to the cover.

Step 4: Review & generate

What's in this kit shows, before you generate:

  • How many images each group makes, and the four copy documents.
  • Copy on your assets: the lines the kit will use. The title, the author and the tagline are required. The title and the author are checked against each finished image, so a typo there becomes a typo on the kit.
  • Cost: Included in plan on the book's first run. On a later run, how many regenerations it uses and how many are left.
  • Your plan's credits and marketing kits.
  • Things to check: gaps that affect the results, for example no launch date or no brand kit, with a link to fix them.

Select Generate kit. The button shows what the run uses. You can leave the page while the kit builds; it picks up again when you come back.

Images

Images shows every image asset, grouped as Social, Launch moments, Email & web, Amazon A+ and Mockups.

  • Filter by group with the chips, or by status with Status: Ready, Changes requested, Approved, Not generated or Failed.
  • Check text on a tile means the title or the author could not be read back from the image. Look at the text before you use it.
  • Every take is its own tile, newest first, labelled take 1, take 2 and so on. More like this adds a take; the earlier takes stay, also after you reload the page. A take is not a draft: each one is a finished version of the format that you can post, download, export and send for review.
  • Select a finished tile to open it full size. Use the arrow keys or the strip to move through the kit, and Esc to close. From there you can Download the file or select More like this.
  • Tick the box on several tiles to open the selection bar. Select Download to get one zip with just those takes, or More like this to make a new take of each asset. The button shows what it uses before you click.
  • Under the newest tile of each asset, More like this, Try again (a failed asset) or Generate (an asset not made yet) runs that one asset. The button shows what it uses.
  • Before the book's first run of the month, any run of part of the kit (one asset, a few, or one copy doc) is that first run: it uses this month's marketing kit for the book, and its button says uses this month's marketing kit. To get the full kit from that run, select Generate kit instead.

What a marketing kit includes

The first Generate kit on a book in a month uses one marketing kit. It gives that book, for the month:

  • The full kit, plus 40 regenerations of single assets. After 40, each regenerated asset costs 1 credit.
  • One print wrap render, one audiobook cover and one text-free cover. In Formats, each of them says Included with this book's marketing kit, no credits until you use it; after that, the card shows its usual credit price.
  • A client review link and unlimited exports.

Plans include 5, 15 or 35 marketing kits a month on Starter, Growth and Scale. Unused marketing kits roll over for one month.

Credits and marketing kits

Your plan has two allowances, and step 4 (Review & generate) shows both, for example: This month: 142 of 150 credits · 3 of 5 marketing kits left.

  • Credits pay for covers, wraps, edits and the API.
  • A marketing kit is one book's full kit for the month, with 40 regenerations included (then 1 credit per asset) and a review link.

The Enterprise dashboard shows the same line. While the workspace plan is not active, neither page shows it; see When the workspace plan is not active.

When the workspace has no marketing kits left

The kit page says This workspace has no marketing kits left this month. Select Buy an extra marketing kit to pay for this one book. After the payment, Stripe sends you back to the kit page. It first says Payment received. Your extra marketing kit opens in a moment. and updates itself. When it says Your extra marketing kit is ready. Select Generate kit., select Generate kit. Do not buy again while the first message shows: the payment has arrived, and the kit opens a few seconds later.

Regenerations

Each book includes 40 regenerations each month. After that, each regenerated image asset costs 1 credit.

The first Generate kit on a book in a month spends no regenerations. After that, each image asset you make again spends one of the book's 40 regenerations: More like this on one image spends one, on a selection it spends one per image, and running Generate kit again spends one per image asset. Copy documents spend none. A background you render in the asset composer also spends one. The More like this box in the side menu shows how many are left.

Each asset is counted once, when the run starts. A retry of the same asset spends nothing more.

When a run needs more than the regenerations left, the kit page asks first: The 40 regenerations included for this book are used. This run costs 2 credits. Continue? Nothing is charged until you select Continue for 2 credits. The credits come from the workspace that holds the book.

  • If the workspace has enough credits, every asset is made.
  • If it has too few, only the assets it can pay for are made, and the page says how many more need credits. Buy credits on the Enterprise dashboard.
  • If an asset paid in credits fails to render, its credit is refunded.

The book's kit, exports and review links keep working at any count. The 40 included regenerations reset at the next billing month.

Create an asset by hand

The asset composer builds a new asset for a kit size, or for a size of your own. Generate the book's kit for the month first.

  1. Open Images and select Create asset manually.
  2. Pick what you are making. The entry sets the size and the export folder. Pick Other for a free size between 200 and 4096 pixels on each side; it is filed under Other/ in the export.
  3. Select Start.
  4. Describe the background, or pick an idea such as Moody gradient or Night sky, and select Render background. Each render uses 1 of the book's 40 included regenerations, then 1 credit (the composer asks first, and refunds the credit if the render fails). You can use a plain colour instead.
  5. Add the Book cover and the Brand logo as image layers. Drag, resize and rotate them.
  6. Edit the text layers. The title and the author are there to start with; select Add text layer for more.
  7. Select Save asset. Saving is free.

The asset appears on its tile with a Made by hand badge. Open the tile and select Edit to reopen it.

Copy docs

Copy docs shows the four copy documents as readable text, one tab each: Listing kit, Ads kit, Social copy and Launch calendar. Each section is a card with its character count and a Copy button; a list, such as the seven KDP keywords, copies one item per line. The button shows a tick and Copied when the text is on your clipboard. Select the .md button to download the file, or Write again to write the document again. Writing a copy doc again is free once the book has its kit for the month; before that, the button says it uses this month's marketing kit.

Export the kit

Select Download .zip beside the Kit heading in the side menu. The zip downloads straight away. It holds every take of each asset. It holds one folder per channel, for example Meta-Instagram/, Stories-Reels-TikTok/, Moments/, Email-Web/, Amazon-A-Plus/, Mockups/ and Copy/. When the files exist, it also holds Print/ and Audiobook/.

File names carry the client, the book, the channel, the asset, its size and its take (_v2 from take 2 on), so the zip is ready to hand over.

Export all kits of a client

  1. Open /enterprise-dashboard.
  2. Find the client in the Clients panel.
  3. Select Export all kits.

The export runs in the background. When the zip is ready, we email you a download link. The zip holds one folder per book, with the same channel folders as a single kit export.

The workspace owner and administrators can export, because only they can open the Enterprise dashboard. While the workspace plan is not active, the Clients panel and Export all kits do not show. The export can refuse with one of these messages:

  • An export for this client is already running. Wait for the email of the first export.
  • This client has no books yet. File a book under the client first.
  • Nothing to export yet — generate a kit for a book first. Open a book's kit page and select Generate kit.

Send the kit for client review

Open Client review in the side menu:

  1. Select Create a review link.
  2. Optionally add the client's name and an email address to send it to, and pick how long it lasts (7 to 90 days, 30 by default).
  3. Under Files to send, select Choose files. A window shows every finished take as a large picture. Tick each take the client should see; two takes of the same ad can both go. Select all and Deselect all change every take at once. The newest take of each asset is ticked to start with.
  4. Select Create link, then Copy link to send it yourself.

If you keep the newest take of each asset ticked, the link follows your work: when the client asks for changes and you make a new take, the same link shows it. The link says All assets in the list.

If you change the pick, the client sees exactly the takes you ticked, and the link says how many files it sends. A take you make later is not on that link. Its tile says New take not sent; create a new link to send it.

Your client approves or requests changes on each asset. Their decisions show on the image tiles as Approved or Changes requested, and you get one email per round they send. Select Revoke to close a link before it expires. While the workspace plan is not active, you cannot revoke a link; it closes when it expires. What the client sees is described in Agency client workspaces.

Who can do what

The subscription owner, admins and editors can fill the launch notes, save brand kits, generate, make more like an asset, compose and create review links. Reviewers can open the kit page and download, but cannot generate or change it.

Team roles are explained in Account, plans, credits, and teams.
