For developers, platforms and AI agents

AI Book Cover Generator API

Generate ebook covers, print wraps with a KDP-ready PDF and audiobook covers from your code, or from Claude and other AI agents through MCP. Monthly API plans from $49.

This API makes new covers. It does not look up covers of published books.

One book, every format

Four cover directions for one non-fiction book, then the print wrap, the audiobook square and the text-free version of the chosen cover. The API makes each of them.

What the API does

Generate covers

From a title, an author, a genre and a summary. An art director picks the look, or you pin one of the templates.

Directions and references

Ask for one cover per direction you name, or generate from up to four reference images.

Edit and vary

Edit a cover with a text instruction, make close variations, or replace a person with a photo.

Print wraps

Back, spine and front for a KDP trim size, with your back-cover copy typeset and a print-ready PDF.

Every format

Audiobook squares, text-free versions, upscales to print resolution, and exports at an exact size and DPI.

Built for automation

API keys, signed webhooks, idempotent requests and an OpenAPI spec. The MCP server has the same tools for agents.

Two ways in

Call the REST API from your code, or connect an AI agent to the MCP server and ask in plain words. Both spend the same credits.

REST API

JSON over HTTPS with a Bearer key. Jobs run in the background; poll them or get a signed webhook. API reference

# 1. Create a book (title, author and genre are required)
curl -X POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/books \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $BYC_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"title":"Salt and Lantern","author":"Mira Okafor","genre":"fantasy",
"summary":"A lighthouse keeper finds a lantern that guides the dead home."}'

# 2. Generate covers (1 credit per cover)
curl -X POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/covers/generate \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $BYC_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"bookId":"<bookId>","count":2}'

# 3. Poll the job (or get a signed webhook), then download
curl https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/jobs/<jobId> -H "Authorization: Bearer $BYC_API_KEY"

MCP server

22 tools for Claude, Claude Code and other MCP clients, with an API key or a normal sign-in. MCP guide

# Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http beyourcover https://beyourcover.com/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $BYC_API_KEY"

# Claude Desktop or claude.ai: add a custom connector with
# https://beyourcover.com/api/mcp
# and sign in with your BeYourCover account.

# Then ask: "Make three fantasy cover options for my book
# Salt and Lantern by Mira Okafor, then a print wrap for KDP."

What a credit buys

Credits are charged per output image. A full print wrap costs 1 credit, whatever the back style. Downloads cost nothing, and a job that fails gives its credits back.

API plans

Credits for the REST API and the MCP server

For a developer, an app or an AI agent that makes covers. The credits work through the API and MCP only: an API plan does not include the web app (generator, editor, downloads), marketing kits, extra seats, review links or white label. For those, pick a workspace plan.

Frequently asked questions

What does the BeYourCover API do?

It generates new book covers. You send a book's title, author, genre and a short summary, and it returns finished covers with the title and author set on them. The same API edits covers, makes text-free and audiobook versions, upscales to print resolution, and builds full print wraps (back, spine and front) with a KDP-ready PDF.

Can it look up the cover of a published book?

No. It makes new covers for your books. To find the existing cover of a published book by its ISBN, use a catalog API such as Open Library Covers or Google Books.

What does a credit buy?

Most operations cost 1 credit per output image. A full print wrap costs 1 credit, whatever the back style. Downloads and upscales are free, and a job that fails gives its credits back.

Which API plan should I choose?

The number in the name is the credits a month: API 150, API 500 and API 1,500. If you run out, buy overage credits at any time; they never expire. Change plans from Billing on your API dashboard.

Does an API plan include the web app?

No. Plan credits work through the REST API and the MCP server only. In the web app you use your own account, with Pro or credit packs. If you want plan credits in the app, marketing kits, team seats or client review links, choose a workspace plan.

Can I use it from Claude or another AI agent?

Yes. The MCP server connects Claude, Claude Code and other MCP clients with your API key or a normal sign-in. The agent can create books, generate and edit covers and build print wraps in conversation, on the same credits.
